ARTISTS STATEMENT

I chose to participate in this project as I feel like nudity should not be the taboo that it is in our society. I hate that patriarchal ideology still lingers in our society, restricting how women express themselves, dress themselves and define their sexuality. I love that this project allows women to depict themselves how they wish to be depicted, with no one orchestrating or touching up the photos behind the scenes. The depiction of different body types and ethnicity is so limited in media it can often leave one feeling under represented or undesirable. I am sick of the unrealistic standards of beauty and behavior have been set in place and I am expected to adhere to. I'm done with it and want to start doing me. I feel like this shoot was a step in the right direction to gaining self confidence and taking ownership of my sexuality. This is one of very rare places where people, including me, can say that they are glad that they shot themselves.
